FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does the Invitae Primary Immunodeficiency (PID) Panel evaluate?
The Invitae Primary Immunodeficiency Panel analyzes genes associated with a broad range of inherited immune defects, including combined immunodeficiencies, antibody production disorders, innate immune defects, and other conditions that increase susceptibility to recurrent, severe, or unusual infections.
Which patients are appropriate for testing?
Eligible patients include those with recurrent infections, early-onset immune dysfunction, poor vaccine response, persistent cytopenias with immune features, abnormal immune labs, or a family history suggestive of PID. Clinical suspicion must be present.
How is billing handled?
Labcorp first assesses insurance coverage. If the test is covered, insurance may be billed after results are released. If the patient has no benefits, lacks coverage for genetic testing, or does not meet payer eligibility rules, they may qualify for a sponsored, no-charge testing option.
Is data shared through the program?
Yes. De-identified patient information and provider contact details may be shared with researchers or commercial entities, regardless of whether the test is billed to insurance or provided through a sponsored option.
How do I order the test?
Orders can be placed through Invitae’s standard online portal or requisition process. Follow specimen collection instructions for blood, buccal, or saliva samples.
What is the expected turnaround time?
Results are typically available 10–21 days after Invitae receives the specimen.
How are results delivered?
Reports are released directly to the ordering clinician through the Invitae provider portal. Providers are responsible for interpretation and patient counseling.
